MOLD AND MICROORGANISM MITIGATION AND REMEDIATION:

Water or moisture intrusion into structures bring serious challenges to property owners whether a simple roof leak, damp basement, water line failure or a more invasive hazard like sewer backup and flooding.

Microorganisms, molds and mold spores are a part of our lives - we live with, touch and breath them every day; mostly without incident. In fact, they help our immune systems to develop strong anti-bodies. However, by the time these conditions are discernable by smell or the naked eye, professional attention should have already been sought. Anytime contaminants are introduced by water or effluent upon an organic or porous food source like wood, cellulose or drywall, the necessary components are in place for fungi and microorganisms to propagate.

Identifying and correcting the cause is as important as eliminating the contaminant itself. While it is true that remediation work eradicates the contaminants, most property owners believe the job is done when the treatment is complete; the truth is that remediation only delivers a “fresh start”. Long-term protection against mold and microorganisms requires a committed property owner who will maintain proper dehumidification, ventilation, temperature and monitoring after treatment.

FWR delivers professional mitigation and licensed remediation of mold, mycotoxins, microorganisms and pathogens as well as structure and content restoration services.

THE SIX STEPS OF MOLD & MICROORGANISM TREATMENT:

The specifications for this work are complex and dependent upon a variety of site-specific variables, however these issues are typically resolved in a six-step process:

  1. Testing: Identification: Cause and origin;
  2. Containment under negative air pressure;
  3. Remediation of the biological contaminant;
  4. Treat / sanitize the affected parts of the structure;
  5. Indoor air quality assessment, treat as needed;
  6. Testing

Additional steps may include salvage, cleaning and sanitizing of personal or business property.

How do I keep mold out of my home or business?
You can control mold growth by:
  • Controlling humidity levels;
  • Promptly fixing leaky roofs, windows, and pipes;
  • Thoroughly cleaning and drying after flooding;
  • Ventilating shower, laundry, kitchen, basement and crawl space.
Specific Recommendations:
  • Keep humidity levels as low as you can; between 30% and 50% at all times. An air conditioner or dehumidifier will help.
  • Use an air conditioner or a dehumidifier during humid months.
  • Be sure your home has enough ventilation. Use exhaust fans which vent outside your home in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry. Make sure your clothes dryer vents outside your home and not into attics or basements.
  • Fix any leaks in your home’s roof, walls, or plumbing so mold does not have moisture.
  • Avoid carpet in bathrooms, basements and on concrete.
  • Listen to your nose - your nose knows.
