“Restoration” refers generally to the processes of salvage and conservation of personal property items located in the damage area AND; to the repair and restoration of the physical structure damages. These activities come in the form of two processes:
Contents and personal property restoration work typically begins immediately after a loss. This work is generally performed as a Loss Mitigation measure:
CONTENTS LOSS MITIGATION is an insurance policy-required emergent service designed to stop further damage, protect undamaged and/or salvageable personal property and secure those items for possible restoration. Depending upon severity of the damage, these services may include removal of all affected items from your damaged structure, performance of necessary cleaning, dry-out or restoration work as well as packaging and securing of those items in Climatrol storage until structure repairs have been completed. Services may include cleaning, odor removal, ozone treatment, low-grain dehumidification along with other specialty conservation measures. These specialty services are applicable to clothing, toys, books, papers, rugs, furniture, arts, antiquities and photo restoration just to name a few. We also document and inventory total loss items(TLI) to be claimed with your insurer.
Typical measures may include:
Restoration of a structure begins after the loss mitigation measures have been completed and an agreement has been reached with your insurer as to the scope of loss and damage.
Your restoration contractor should meet with you and the assigned insurance adjuster as soon as reasonably possible in order to establish agreement as to the nature and extent of repairs required. It is far easier to get this right from the very start rather than trying to revisit issues of scope or price after the fact. This step is perhaps the most important element of the claim settlement process.
